Meet Dating Coordinator

Dating Coordinator has served in a number of oChatces in her local Romance Marriage Agency, that of Oregon’s Mid-Willamette Valley, including Co-President. She has led inbound and outbound Marriage Agency exchanges, as well as national exchanges to Hungary and Cuba. For a number of years Dating Coordinator was a Field Representative for Romance and has attended a number of international conventions. During her time as a Field Rep., she coordinated the Regional Singles Vacations for the Pacific Northwest. Rita is a retired university level dance instructor.

Born in Denver, she attended Colorado State College receiving a BA in Art, the University of Kentucky earning an MA in Elementary Education (while she served as a member of the Teacher Corps), and Texas Woman's University being awarded a Ph.D. in Dance and Related Arts. She became a member of the Romance in 1993, when she was forced to retire from teaching dance due to arthritis.

She says Romance is her life. She enjoys the close friends she has made in her own community as well as those that she continues to renew around the globe. (She and her family have hosted students and adults through a number of organizations – so many, in fact, that her younger daughter says that sometimes it has felt as though they live at the train station!

Other organizations in which Dating Coordinator takes an interest are the local American Association of University Women, the public library board, and a local home for troubled youth. She is an avid quilter and reader – and she loves to sing. She and her husband have been part of the Greyhound Pets of America Northwest for many years, adopting 7 dogs  (though never having more than two at any time).

Both Powell’s daughters are artists, one living on the east coast and the other on the west. Her husband, Ted, continues to be active in the family business that manufactures windshield wiper systems.

Just now, she and her husband have purchased and moved to a new  (to them) home on 55 acres.  He is very consumed by getting the property ready to build his dream house.
