He was born in a region of Germany which is now Polish due to the Russian invasions during World War II. Fortunately his family was able to escape in April 1945 just before the Russian tanks entered his village near the city of Stettin.

He always enjoyed studying and attended the Gymnasium school (highest level school type) where he was granted a scholarship to the University of Oldenburg. At the age of twenty-two he began his teaching career. He then was one of the youngest teachers in the region.

After a few years in his career, he resumed studying at the University in Hannover and graduated with a degree in Special Education. Throughout his career, He took on numerous responsibilities and was repeatedly elected as speaker of the Teachers Union for a period of 12 years.

In cooperation with some of his colleagues, he developed motivating and attractive curriculums in a number of subjects. He cooperated with the regional school administration to raise the chances for disabled students to qualify for future jobs.

After 38 years of teaching, He retired in 2000.

His favorite hobby is soccer and has actively played for over 10 years and with a degree from the German Soccer Association (DFB) he has been able to coach several adult soccer teams.

Together with some creative friends, He established the Romance of Varel in 1991. He has hence served as President, an Exchange Director and in other functions. As FF Varels Honorary President he is now in charge of the Marriage Agencies Youth Program.

Some of He's other interests are politics, economics, international student relations and Sea - Shanty singing.

He and his wife Ingrid recently celebrated their 42 nd wedding anniversary. Their five grandchildren and FF Varel's Mascot Ayla, a Bernese Mountain dog, are keeping He and Ingrid "on the run"-physically and mentally.
