About the club
Friendship Force The Villages, Florida was chartered in 2016. It consists of 40 members including couples and singles. Some have been active members of other FF clubs and participated in various Journeys and as hosts. Most of our members have lived in a number of states or countries before retiring here. Our diverse backgrounds help provide ambassadors with insightful and varied perspectives. Most members now live in The Villages, and the rest in communities within a 30 mile radius. All are retired and look forward to spending quality time with our ambassadors. Club gatherings held monthly include Let’s Eat Out at ethnic restaurants, travelogues by members, and programs of interest. We welcome two incoming Journeys and two outgoing Journeys a year.
About the region
The Villages is located in central Florida 45 miles northwest of Orlando. Its population is 157,000. Currently 14,000 more homes are being built. It covers 32 square miles, and has 100 miles of golf cart paths. It boasts over 2,400 organized clubs. We have a polo stadium attracting 30,000 spectators a year. We are a civic-minded population, proud of our 85% voting participation. We have the largest American Legion post. There are 11 softball fields hosting 5000 games a year. It was named the Active Adult Community of the Year for the past three years.
About the Journey
We can accommodate 15 ambassadors between the months of November and April. Because of our sunny average 70 degree F climate, most of our activities are outdoors. We share activities like bocce and shuffleboard. We like to showcase some of our Central Florida history through visits to the Marjorie Rawlings (authoress of The Yearling) home, Mt. Dora Canal Boat ride (where you see wildlife up close), Florida Carriage Museum (130 pristine carriages going back to 19th century), Gypsy Gold Horse Farm (learn about the discovery of this new breed of horse and the unique Gypsy culture), Homosassa Springs (for Florida wildlife including manatees), Eisenhower Center (completely stocked by resident’s donations), local wine tasting, live music nightly for your listening and dancing pleasure in the three town squares, and other attractions as time permits.
Each Journey includes many personal interactions during a Welcome Dinner or Brunch, meals with hosts, small dinner parties, picnics, free time, and Farewell Party. Although we do not venture too far during a Journey, our proximity to Walt Disney World, Space Coast, Sea World, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Gulf Coast make these destinations worth considering before or after your Journey here. A typical journey will cost US $175-200 per ambassador for the week. The price will vary depending on the day trips planned. Transportation from and to the Orlando Airport is by shuttle at ambassador’s expense. We look forward to having you here!
